The neighbors who self-manage the Bicycle Workshop on Carrer Joaquim Valls 137 we recently learned that the city council has granted the construction permit to the company CONSTRAK, S.L to build a building with three homes, a fact that we consider very serious because it threatens the existence of the workshop and may involve the destruction of all the work we have done during the last three years.
L’any 2005 a collective project was launched: a bicycle repair shop. A repair shop of an area abandoned and degraded for fifteen years. A repair workshop for the streets subjected to the daily dictatorship of the car. A workshop to repair the citizen-civic-voter-consumer role reserved for us. A repair shop for life subjected to business and the market. A workshop self-managed by the neighborhood and for the neighborhood that works without money. A workshop shared by children, girls, young and old and where we learn together. A workshop that is more alive than ever.
Three homes in exchange for a space that now belongs to all, three homes that we can't afford, three homes that will enrich the old ones. We don't need more flats, we need space to live. We will not allow them to throw us out. We demand that the city council withdraw the permission to destroy the workshop. We demand from the town hall a large square next to the workshop. We ask for all the support of neighbors, collectives and entities in order to defend this aggression.
The bike workshop is left, enough of speculation.
